What is Dual Diagnosis?
Dual diagnosis is programming designed to treat people who have more than one condition at the same time. At Eagle Mountain Drug Rehab, we use the term dual diagnosis to mean a mental health issues along with a substance abuse disorder. We have found that most patients have underlying mental health issues and if those are not addressed during addiction treatment, the addiction will not be resolved.
There are many addiction programs who say they are a Dual diagnosis program, but they don’t address the mental health issues from the beginning, and often not at all. Here at Eagle Mountain Drug Rehab, our clinicians and counselors will develop personalized treatment plans that address all underlying issues driving an addiction. For successful recovery, co-occurring conditions must be dealt with from the start. At Eagle Mountain Drug Rehab, we have professionals who are specialists in various forms of psychotherapy and in medication management. Our clinicians are trained in a variety of evidence based modalities to ensure the best fit for each patient.
It is very common for mental health issues and substance abuse disorders to overlap. Studies have shown that over 60 percent of people who have mental health issues will also have addiction issues. In the past, patients who had both issues at the same time would get psychiatric treatment but those clinics are not usually designed to address addictions, and addiction programs often would not diagnose or treat any underlying mental health issues. In the dual diagnosis program at Eagle Mountain Drug Rehab, both issues are dealt with at the same time to ensure the patient has the best chance possible for recovery.
Our clinicians provide the following:
It is important to understand why a patient began using or continues to use and to treat the underlying causes of their addiction. As well as the addiction itself. At Eagle Mountain Drug Rehab, we recognize that if mental health issues are not treated, patients will return to self-medicating. Addictions sometimes start with patients trying to feel better, or to alleviate symptoms of depression, anxiety or Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Unfortunately, this is a temporary fix to a complicated and complex disorder that requires a trained medical professional to evaluate and diagnose. Dual diagnosis has become a popular phrase in addiction treatment, especially since most health insurance will pay more and for longer if a patient is diagnosed with a mental health disorder. And while a lot of addiction programs claim to address both drug abuse and mental health, they often fail to deliver. Eagle Mountain Drug Rehab offers real and comprehensive dual diagnosis treatment.
