Although there are many mental health illnesses, Depression and Anxiety in all their various forms are the two most common diagnosis’ we see in our patients.
Depression is an illness in which a person feels sad, disconnected, uncomfortable in their own skin, hopeless, unmotivated, broken, invisible and just not interested in life. There are many forms of depression all in the category of Mood Disorders. A lot of people don’t realize Depression is an illness and one of the most common reasons people self-medicate with illegal drugs, or abuse prescriptions and/or alcohol. Depression can leave a person feeling empty, alone, frightened and feeling too scared to get close to others and reach out and afraid of being alone. Depression can lead to suicide if untreated. Currently there are many excellent medications to treat depression. Let our caring medical staff at Eagle Mountain Drug Rehab help you out of the dark.
Anxiety disorders (this includes Post Traumatic Stress Disorder which is considered an anxiety disorder) have been described as being like walking a tightrope and always having too much rope. It’s an illness of worry and constant doubt, fearful thoughts, panic reactions, feeling jittery, and being unable to sleep at night because of racing thoughts. It’s more than being nervous. It’s can be debilitating. It can lead to depression, phobias (irrational fears of certain objects or situations), and physical exhaustion. Anxiety takes a toll on your health and your mind. Many people become addicted to Benzodiazepines accidentally because they do seem to work on anxiety in the short term.
Over the long haul, however, Benzodiazepines can actually increase anxiety as your tolerance goes up, but your prescription remains the same. This is why our medical staff do not use these types of drugs.
A quote by 19th century author Arthur Somers Roche sums up anxiety perfectly: "Worry is a thin stream of fear trickling through the mind. If encouraged, it cuts a channel into which all other thoughts are drained." Our doctors can help. We use cutting edge medications that are non-addictive to help stabilize your moods and ease your anxiety. Our therapists are trained in many forms of relaxation and mindfulness to help you calm your racing thoughts. We know how to help!
There is still much social stigma associated with having a mental illness. There is a lot of misinformation as well. Media often portrays those with mental illness as clownish, quirky characters, or scary mass murderers. Mental illness is still not openly talked about in families, schools or the workplace. Those suffering from mental illness often feel alone, isolated, lost and like a failure, or as if a mental illness was a moral weakness. These are biochemical reactions in the brain, no more under your control than gravity! We have highly trained therapists to help you through this time and to help you adjust to medications. Here at Eagle Mountain Drug Rehab, we know how to help. We know what works and we know we can help you!
