Eagle Mountain Drug Rehab Intensive Outpatient Treatment (IOP) |
|
Intensive Outpatient Treatment, or IOP is a program allowing the patient to be engaged in treatment either during the day or at night, and return home and keep work and family commitments. IOP is a level of care for those patients who are not detoxing, or for those patients who are in the process of going back into the community.
In IOP, you attend primarily group therapy, although if intense mental health or abuse issues come up, you will be attending individual therapy as well. Some mental health issues are not appropriate for a group setting.
IOP therapeutic process groups are held the first 90 minutes, and are one of the foundations you will be building your new life upon. In these groups you will be expected to participate as honestly and openly as you can about your addictions, how you got where you are, and why you want a different life. This is an intensive group designed to really get underneath your addiction into the root of why you use. Think of it as “open heart surgery”. Group is a kind of mini society called a therapeutic community. In this community you will be expected to hold yourself and others accountable, bring up any issues you are having and to help others bring up their issues as well. In case you are operating under the “I’m not a snitch” principal: we expect you to bring forward someone else’s use of illegal drugs especially since this group may have patients from our inpatient program transitioning to the community who have months of no use and a relapse for them could be fatal, just as it can be for those transitioned back home already. You are not “snitching”. When you hold someone accountable and responsible you are showing capacity to love others and yourself by keeping your “community” safe. These are your brothers and sisters and it is your responsibility to help them, as its theirs to help you. The relationships you form here, and the healthy coping, communication, accountability and responsibility skills you learn here, will translate over to your private life.
Psycho-educational groups, provide education about your addiction(s). At Eagle Mountain Drug Rehab, we only use evidence based interventions including the following:
Psycho-educational groups are a more defined group with planned topics such as:
• Relapse prevention and Relapse Autopsies (Why do I keep doing this!)
• Managing triggers and cravings
• Understanding the role of the brain and brain chemistry in addictions
• How addictions happen
• Twelve Step programs and how they help
• Spirituality vs. Religion, why they are different and how both can play a role
• Stages of how to change, and why you would want to
• How mental health issues, or dual diagnosis’ impact recovery from addictions
We have a break in between groups where clients can attend to personal needs, grab a drink of water and stretch their legs, grab a smoke, etc.
